Ted Kennedy

I don't wish anyone ill will. I certainly feel for Sen. Kennedy's family- for all that they have been through, but let's be honest. There has been much to much said about Ted Kennedy's service to the US Senate. In all that has been said about "The Lion of the Senate", nothing has been said about Mary Jo Kopechne.

You remember her right? The late night "date" with Sen. Kennedy, gone horribly, horribly wrong. The date that ended in the death of Ms. Kopechne, with a stumbling and confused Teddy leaving her behind to drown in order to save his political future.

Kennedy always absolved himself from any responsibility in her death. Curiously though, Kopechne reportedly left the party at 11:15 p.m. with Kennedy, after he — according to his own account — offered to drive her to the ferry she needed to take to get back to Edgartown. A ferry that she never arrived at.

Kennedy had told the press that he made several attempts to save her, but in the end he couldn't even be bothered to report the incident to police. Kennedy even contacted several aides that night, but failed to report the accident until Ms. Kopechne's body was discovered the next morning.

Most likely, Kennedy made no heroic attempts at saving Ms. Kopechne that night. He selfishly thought only of himself as fled the seen of the accident. He earned another nickname that night.

Leftists may remember him as "the Lion of the Senate". To me Ted Kennedy will always be the Cowardly Lion- who fearing a DUI, left Mary Jo Kopechne to die in the murky waters near Chappaquiddick Island. What Bill commemorates that side of Teddy Kennedy?
