Transportation

Yesterday's piece on the light rail fiasco that is MARTA seems to be setting a theme. The web is all atwitter with John Oxendines transportation proposal for Atlanta

It's a proposal that I like. It will be expensive, but not as expensive as double decking the connector or tunneling under it. Simply put, it would build a second connector. The major advantage is that this proposal will not build more light rail. Adding empty rail cars is not the solution- giving people a new route to work is.

It takes a pair to recommend this while running for governor- it's going to tick people off. It would mean displacing some Atlantians, who will need to be properly compensated. This compensation will still be cheaper than the other proposed solutions. While the people who live in these neighborhoods may be upset at first, I believe they will be quick to forgive once their check clears the bank.

Score this one for Oxendine- at least he's thinking outside of the typical liberal rapid transit box.
