It was a bad start to the week for Congressman Nathan Deal. The congressman and candidate for governor was hit with a corruption allegation alleging that he had intervened with Georgia political leaders to preserve a program that financially benefits him. That's illegal, unethical and more than a little bit sleazy if true.
The complaint was filed by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) on Wednesday, based on claims made by the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The allegations states that Deal pressured Revenue Commissioner Bart Graham to preserve a state program that earns Deal's company about $300,000 a year and Deal himself personally up to $150,000 a year.
APO has queried both Congressman Deals office and Revenue Commissioner Bart Graham for a statement. We'll update when we get something.
